At Lex Digital, we believe AI creates the most value when it does more than generate content or speed up isolated tasks. Its real potential lies in improving how an agency operates: turning experience and expertise into repeatable systems, improving consistency and efficiency, and ultimately raising the quality of the work delivered to clients.
That philosophy is at the heart of our approach to operations and one of the main reasons why our founder, Bart Gagelmans, has been shortlisted for Operations Professional of the Year at the European Agency Awards 2026.
Being recognised alongside professionals and agencies from across Europe is something we are extremely proud of. The nomination is particularly meaningful because it recognises an area in which we have invested significantly: translating years of SEO expertise and operational know-how into practical AI-powered systems that strengthen the way we work and the value we deliver to clients.
Building on more than 14 years of SEO experience
Bart has been working with SEO since 2012, when he first started experimenting with online visibility while studying law. More than 14 years later, that experience forms an important foundation for how Lex Digital approaches both traditional SEO and the rapidly developing world of AI search and LLM optimisation.
New technology does not replace that experience. It allows us to capture, structure and apply it in new ways.
As AI became increasingly capable, we started looking beyond individual use cases. Instead, we began examining our recurring operational processes and asking a simple question:
Can we turn this process into a system that improves quality, consistency and efficiency without losing the specialist knowledge and strategic judgement behind it?
That question has gradually changed the way we work.
Turning recurring SEO processes into AI-powered systems
Rather than using off-the-shelf AI tools for occasional tasks, Lex Digital has been building its own internal frameworks around the way we actually deliver SEO.
One example is our AI Keyword Research Framework. We developed a system that combines first-party information from platforms such as Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools with external SEO data. It creates a conversational research environment that allows us to analyse search opportunities more efficiently, while still applying our own strategic judgement.
We also developed a custom AI Copywriter System. Instead of giving every client the same generic AI setup, we can configure a dedicated environment around their tone of voice, SEO requirements, USPs, sector knowledge and specific instructions.
The system supports our copywriting process, but human review remains essential — especially for our legal clients. Content for law firms is still reviewed and refined by a legal professional, ensuring that accuracy, nuance and specialist terminology are properly handled.
For us, the value of the tool lies in helping us raise the quality of our content while saving significant time in the process. We place a strong emphasis on quality, attention to detail and tailored work, and this internal system helps us apply those standards more consistently across our client portfolio.
Another example is our internal Citations Checker. The system monitors the web for new digital PR links to client websites and flags inconsistent business information such as names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses across online listings. These checks can easily take hours to perform manually each month. Our system can now alert us when something is missing or inconsistent, allowing us to react faster and improve trust signals, local SEO accuracy and overall brand consistency for our clients.
We have also developed an AI Trust Score Tool, which helps us assess signals that can influence how brands are understood and trusted in AI-driven search environments.
The objective behind these tools is not automation for the sake of automation. The objective is better delivery: using AI to improve quality, consistency and efficiency while preserving the strategic judgement and specialist expertise our clients rely on.
Small team, European recognition
Being shortlisted for the European Agency Awards therefore means a great deal to us.
This approach allows us to combine personal client relationships with increasingly structured and scalable ways of working.
That makes it particularly rewarding to see our approach recognised alongside established agencies and professionals from across the European agency landscape.
“Being shortlisted is a huge honour, particularly because this nomination recognises an area we have invested so much energy in. We continuously look at how we can capture our experience and expertise in stronger systems, allowing our team to work more effectively while improving the quality and consistency of what we deliver. For us, AI is not about replacing expertise. It is about strengthening it. To see that approach recognised at a European level makes me incredibly proud of what our team has built.”
Bart Gagelmans, Founder of Lex Digital

The nomination also marks a special personal milestone: Bart Gagelmans is the first Belgian individual ever to be shortlisted for the European Agency Awards.
For Lex Digital, the recognition represents an important milestone in the agency’s continued development and reinforces our ambition to build a highly specialised, technology-supported agency that can compete at an international level.
What comes next?
AI and search are developing quickly, but our underlying approach will remain the same.
We will continue looking critically at how we work, identifying where technology can improve our processes and building systems around real operational needs rather than trends.
At the same time, more than 14 years of SEO experience has taught us that tools alone never create great results. Strategy, specialist knowledge, judgement and a genuine understanding of the client’s business remain essential.
The opportunity lies in bringing those two sides together.
For Lex Digital, that means continuing to translate our experience and expertise into stronger, repeatable systems that improve quality, consistency and efficiency across our work. By embedding knowledge into our processes and continuously refining the technology behind them, we can keep improving the way we deliver SEO and AI search strategies while maintaining the attention to detail and tailored approach our clients expect.
